THE HOUSE

Manager’s phone  +61 (0) 429 535 833

Maps

We’ve created maps of the area and region to make your planning easier.

Internet

Passcode will be on the welcome card/letter in the house when you arrive.

Audiovisuals

Remote controls are usually in the lounge area – sometimes in a drawer/cupboard. If you have difficulty working  equipment please do not interfere with connections.  Contact the manager for assistance. Guests have altered connections in the past which inconveniences the following guests and we spend a lot of time fixing the setup.

Arcade games (House B)

Old-school video games to enjoy. Turn off after use or you may permanently damage the screen.

Bikes (House B)

Please use the helmets and lock provided. Do not take the bikes on the sand. Please keep the tires pumped and ready for the next guest. Repair items (and usually a spare inner tube) can be found in the garage cupboard. Also please don’t lean the bikes (or anything else) against walls – we provide racks for the bikes to be parked in.

Pantry space

House A has a pantry cupboard. House B has two large draws below, and to left, of the microwave for use as a pantry.

BBQ

Please use wipes provided to clean the plate after each use. Wipe when slightly warm, but not hot. The wipes are non-toxic and it is safe to eat off the BBQ without washing it. Turn the gas bottle off after every use!

Rubbish

Please put a bin liner in each wheelie bin before placing rubbish in. These are in the cupboard under the sink, but ask if you cannot find them. Ensure general waste is wrapped before placing it in the green top bin. Rinse recyclables before placing them in the yellow top bin. The green top bin is ony for tree cuttings, leaves and grass cuttings. Collection happens any time on Friday. Please place bins curbside, handles closest to the house Thursday evening.

Towels and makeup

Please use dark face washers to remove makeup rather than white towels. We’ll really appreciate you helping us with this as it can take a lot of effort to remove makeup stains.

Books, magazines, DVDs, games

We provide magazines and DVDs. House B also has a few books to borrow. Please leave items for future guests to enjoy.

Fauna

Birds: If a family of magpies hangs around, don’t be alarmed – they are friendly! Do not feel obliged to feed them, but if you want to, high protein foods (egg, meat or cheese) are best, but really they like eating insects, so its great if they stay around and keep the grasshopper population low.

Frogs: You are adjacent to a nature reserve. It’s a beautiful, healthy habitat for native frogs. If a frog gets inside, please do not hurt it. Simply put it in the garden, or call the manager for help.

Check the Fauna folder on the bookshelf for info about native birds and animals you may find in the area.

Gas

Occasionally, the hot water system or the BBQ will run out of gas, as it is supplied in bottles. Please call the manager and they will help you switch to the reserve bottle. They need to be made aware so they can reorder.

Please find further information

Equipment folder – instruction manuals for appliances in the house. If you need assistance, or find anything needs attention, please do not hesitate to contact the site manager.

Edible plants (House B)

You are welcome to use some of the edible plants, such as herbs in the garden. Please consider future guests also want to enjoy them so do not uproot or strip plants bare. Ensure you are knowledgeable about plants before consuming them. We cannot be responsible if guests ingest plants not suitable for human consumption.

Fridge/freezer

The fridge/freezer is on optimal settings for maintaining food safety. Please do not change the settings or turn buttons on or off. Do not turn on the ice making machine in House B - it is not connected and will only make noise.

The climb starts at the corner of Tanah Street West and Jarnahill Drive. The walk takes half to one hour. You need good fitness to  climb. Mount Coolum is an isolated volcanic dome, 208m high, covering approximately 1 square km area. Ecologically it is one of the most important square km in Australia. There are only 1400 plant species in all of Great Britain, whereas Mount Coolum is home to over 700 plant types, including 590 flowering plants and 49 ferns.

One of our favourite things to do is to take a glass of wine for a walk along the beach and sit watching the waves, dolphins, whales and the sun go down over Mount Coolum.

There are a couple of boogie boards available in the house for your use. Have a go on your own, with a friend or check out one of the local surf schools if you want to do the stand up kind of surfing.

Water skiing

You can ski behind a boat or wake board at the local cable ski park. Both are only about 10 mins drive.

Whale watching

We’re on the migration trail for humpback whales. Every year they make their way from Antarctica up the Queensland coast to have their babies then return back down the coast to the colder waters before summer hits. Various tour operators offer boat trips, but you will usually spot whales from the beach if you are here at the right time!

Zoos

Australia Zoo is one of the great attractions of the sunshine coast and home of the crocodile hunter.

Wildlife HQ is a small zoo set up to save animals abandoned from another zoo being closed. We love supporting this place. You can book special in enclosure experiences here that are wonderful for any animal lover.
